چکیده

Scenario #1 A 60-year-old male found unresponsive for roughly 10 hours at his home was brought to the emergency department. A head computer tomography (CT) revealed an ischemic stroke affecting the right middle cerebral artery. He was subsequently admitted to the neurology service and underwent a swallow study, which revealed pharyngeal motor dysfunction and a delay in swallow initiation leading to aspiration. A nasogastric tube (NGT) was placed for nutrition support. Unfortunately, the patient unintentionally removed the NGT tube three times in less than a week. The gastroenterology fellow was consulted for placement of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). Is a PEG necessary in this scenario?

A theoretical study of dipole moments, energy levels and structural parameters in the Oxymetazoline drug as a nano carrier based on fullerene with changing substitution

Oxymetazoline is a decongestant. It works by constricting (shrinking) blood vessels (veins and arteries) in your body. The nasal formulation acts directly on the blood vessels in your nasal tissues. Constriction of the blood vessels in your nose and sinuses leads to drainage of these areas and a decrease in congestion. Oxymetazoline is an adrenomimetic that nonselectively agonizes α1...

Alternative technique for changing from nasal to oral endotracheal tube for orthognathic and nasal surgery by using an airway exchange catheter: a case report

Preliminary investigations of horses’ (Equus caballus) responses to different bridles during foundation training

Throughout equitation history, bitted bridles have been the primary method of controlling the ridden horse. In response to health and behavioral concerns arising from the use of bitted bridles, bit-less bridles offer new methods of steering and control. However, the effectiveness of bitless bridles on horses had not been previously examined scientifically. Therefore, the current study measured ...

Nasotracheal intubation in patients with an unanticipated difficult airway--I.

To the Editor: We read, with interest, the recent case report written by Drs. Uria et al.1, and we agree with their assessment that it is important to perform a preliminary laryngoscopy prior to inserting a nasal tube. However, their recommendation to insert a bougie through the RAE® nasal tube, with its distal acute curve, can result in inappropriate bending of the distal portion which is unfa...
